The expansion included a new faction named the Sarranid Sultanate, Two factions seeming to be based on two empires the Sassanid Empire, which ruled the pre-Islamic Middle East around the time of the fall of Rome, and the Mameluke Sultanate, ruled by the Mamelukes in the Middle East many centuries later in Egypt.
A sequel, called Mount&Blade II: Bannerlord, will follow Warband. Warband is the first stand-alone expansion for Mount&Blade and was first announced in January 2009. The game was developed by TaleWorlds and was published by Paradox Interactive on March 30, 2010.
